Strategy and leadership for a disruptive world

Advances in technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology and biotechnology have the potential to disrupt the rules of the game for every industry.

Challengers with big dreams, new tools and a "can do" attitude are creating new sources of value, changing the face of competition and disrupting the foundations on which our industries and institutions are built.

To prepare your business for the changes ahead you need to adopt a fresh approach to strategy and leadership, and be ready to disrupt your business before someone else does it for you.

Let disrupt it help set you on the right track to the future.

What “Disrupt” Really Means

This article was first published on 18 February 2013.

This article was sent to me be a good friend and excellent strategist Peter Young (click here to see Peter’s LinkedIn profile).  Peter summed up the key issue very elegantly in his one line covering note accompanying the link to the article:

… an interesting thought : it’s not about the product (technology), it’s about the business model!”

One can’t overstress the importance of understanding that technologies in and of themselves don’t cause disruption.  Disruption doesn’t happen without both a technology that opens up new possibilities for configuring business models and value chains AND the creative application of that technology to capitalise on that possibility.
