Web 4.0: The Ultra-Intelligent Electronic Agent is Coming
This article was originally published on 2 April 2013.
In my previous post I mentioned that knowledge-based businesses are going to find it increasingly difficult to maintain relevance in the future. This article from Big Think provides a deeper look at intelligent agents and, like the earlier article, was also authored by acclaimed technology visionary Daniel Burrus.
The article includes a short five minute video that’s a must-see. In it Burrus describes the ultra-intelligent agent of the future and makes the point that we’re likely to see them operating much sooner than most people would expect. His account of what we’re likely to see is both provocative and very believable. Professionals who believe there irreplaceable should watch this and tremble.
Perhaps the most significant observation made by Burrus is his assertion, right at the end of the video, that “Disruptive technology is only disruptive if you didn’t look and see it coming”. It’s hard to overstate the importance of this comment. I’ve noted before that while there’s a long list of things about the future that are uncertain or unknowable, there are also some things of which we can be reasonably certain. Continued, rapid progress in the development of ultra-intelligent agents is one such area and it’s for that reason that you need to have it on your radar.
