GE, Nike join ranks of corporate accelerators

This slideshow provides a great overview of how a small number of large incumbents are tapping into incubators as a way of giving themselves a window to the fringes of disruption in their respective industries.
The use of incubators is a very interesting strategic response to the challenges that disruptive innovation causes for industry incumbents.
It will be interesting to watch these collaborative arrangements evolve over the next year or two as we get a better sense for whether they:
- Emerge to become the stock-standard means of capturing and controlling the disruptive forces in an industry; OR
- Turn out to be merely a misguided attempt to hold back forces greater than any individual industry or incumbent.
