Business schools face a challenging future

Education is currently undergoing a not-so-quiet revolution. As with a number of other areas, it is being dragged into a world of both new games and new rules by some of the brightest people on the planet who have the express desire of disrupting the traditional model of university education and the smarts and finance to actually do it. One takeaway from this story is the adoption of the “freemium” business.
As the author says “ the real kicker for the consumer is that it is all virtually free”. In a world where the prevailing pricing pressure is toward “free” it will be interesting to see whether those providing online education can implement the “freemium” model and, even if they can, whether it can ever replace the revenues that may be lost from the model that has prevailed until now.
